Self-saved seed

also: farm-saved seed
In a sentence. Seed kept from a grower's own harvest; often disallowed for hemp because its THC genetics drift.

Self-saved (farm-saved) seed is retained from a previous crop rather than bought certified. For hemp it is often prohibited or discouraged: without certification, the THC profile can drift upward over generations, risking a "hot" crop. Rules on self-saved seed are a useful signal of how tightly a country controls cultivation.
